The Different Graduation Regalia Hood Colors

Gradshop-Graduation Regalia Hood Colors

Mostly, graduation occurs once in a lifetime especially if one has reached the bachelor’s degree, except of course if the person wants to pursue further studies by enrolling for a master’s degree, or better yet, for a doctorate’s degree. In today’s generation, parents are saving up for their child’s most expensive investment – education. Well, they are making a tough decision as to what school they want to send their children or as to what course they would like their children to pursue. But all of this doesn’t really matter as long as the person graduates. This will be a new beginning for him or her and all the efforts that were devoted and money that was invested will be reaped as graduation day comes. Students in their graduation regalia hood colors will be marching confidently and proud of their accomplishment.

Then here comes graduation day. One would think that it’s the end of a long line of outflow of money, but apparently, graduation is expensive. Since it’s a special day, people would like to squander for the sake of remembering it as a special day. One will purchase the best pair of shoes, put on the best hair and makeup, and of course, rent or buy the best graduation regalia.

Here comes the graduation regalia, and then what are the different graduation regalia colors? In general, the graduation regalia hood colors indicate the academic degree color and the institution on which it was given. Usually, the velvety portion of the hood specifies the color of the academic degree and the satin part of the hood corresponds to the school/university on which the degree is given.

The colors of graduation regalia should not be a combination of two or more colors so as not to confuse the onlookers. But if there is a valid reason to mix colors, it should be in a pattern or in even divisions. In the United States, the regalia colors for the Arts, Letters, and Humanities are white. For the Agriculture, maize is the color. The color for Library Science is yellow, while in Science it is golden yellow. For Nursing, it is apricot while for Engineering, it’s orange. The hood color for Economics is copper and for Forestry it’s russet. Theology has scarlet and journalism has crimson. For Journalism, Social Work and Music, they have crimson, citron and pink respectively.  There is the color salmon pink for Public Health and drab for Commerce, Accountancy and Business. They have brown for both Fine Arts and Architecture. For oratory they have Silver and they have Gray for Veterinary Science. Dentistry it is lilac and for law it is purple. For Philosophy there is dark blue and for education, there’s light blue. For Physical Education there is sage green and there is Kelly green for Medicine. Public Administration including Public Service has peacock blue and olive green for pharmacy.

Now that these are presented above, people wouldn’t be surprised of the ambiguity of the graduation regalia hood colors.
