To the people who are about to graduate, they already know that they have some responsibilities entrusted unto them during the whole period for preparation and one of them is securing their own uniform to be worn during the big day. Some of them may be a little bit clueless to what is academic regalia and how they could get it before the graduation ceremony. First and foremost, the graduation ceremony is an event that is considered to be a tradition to every academic institution in the world. This occasion aims to recognize and honor the institution’s new graduates by presenting them with their diploma which is the single thing that is the beneficiary of all the candidates’ years of sacrifice. This occasion marks both an end and a beginning for all the candidates which make it a very momentous one, an occasion that could become a turning point for most of the candidates. This is probably why the institution will definitely try its best in making this ceremony unforgettable, beautiful and as perfect as possible. As it was said, there will be responsibilities that the candidates will be allotted and one of them is getting their own academic regalia.

To help candidates get more facts about their uniform, here are some things that they need to know about what is academic regalia:
  • The academic regalia is the official garb of all the candidates for graduation plus some distinctive members of the faculty.
  • The basic academic regalia consist of the graduation outfits such as  academic gown, the academic hood, the cap and the tassel. All of these pieces should be present during the candidate’s fitting and be worn during the ceremony
  • The academic gowns are worn like a simple graduation robe, the color varies but usual ones are blue and black.
  • The academic hoods are  worn over the candidate’s shoulders. The candidate must pay attention to the color and size of the hood because these are specific to the college the candidate belongs to and the level of the degree that the candidate is going to receive respectively. 
  • The cap has three types—the mortarboard, the bonnet and the tam. Attached to the cap is the tassel which color also varies from college to college. 
  • All the candidates for graduation are advised to scout and survey for graduation shops and suppliers near their area and personally visit the potential ones for fitting. 
  • The two important things that the candidates must pay attention during the search for the best regalia are its quality and cost. Each candidate must be able to see if the quality is worth the cost and vice versa.
  • Each candidate is urged and encouraged to search for the regalia as early as possible so that they can get the best quality at a normal price.
  • Each candidate must have a thorough understanding of what is academic regalia to be able to appreciate all these tips regarding the regalia. The graduation ceremony will wholly make the candidates understand its importance.
